CBD vs Delta 8: What's the Difference and Which Is Right for You?
CBD and Delta 8 are both derived from hemp, both legal under federal law, and both sold in similar product formats — gummies, tinctures, vapes. But they work very differently and produce very different results. Here's a straightforward comparison.
CBD (Cannabidiol)
CBD is the most well-known non-psychoactive cannabinoid in hemp. Non-psychoactive means it won't make you feel intoxicated or impaired. Most people who use CBD do so for everyday wellness — it's become one of the most widely used hemp supplements in the US.
Key characteristics:
- No psychoactive effects — you won't feel "high"
- Available in broad spectrum, full spectrum, and isolate formats
- Common forms: gummies, tinctures, capsules, topicals, vapes
- Legal in all 50 states
Delta 8 THC
Delta 8 is a hemp-derived cannabinoid that is mildly psychoactive. It's chemically similar to Delta 9 THC (the primary compound in marijuana) but produces a milder, more manageable effect that many users describe as clear-headed and relaxing without anxiety or intensity.
Key characteristics:
- Mildly psychoactive — produces a light, relaxed feeling
- Common forms: gummies, vape cartridges, disposables, flower, tinctures
- Federally legal hemp-derived; some states restrict it — check local laws
- Stronger than CBD, much milder than Delta 9 THC or THC-P

Can You Combine Them?
Yes — many hemp products combine CBD and Delta 8 together. Full spectrum products naturally contain small amounts of Delta 8 alongside CBD and other cannabinoids. Some people prefer this "entourage effect" to either cannabinoid alone.
Important Note on Drug Testing
Both CBD (especially full spectrum) and Delta 8 can result in a positive THC drug test. If you're subject to drug testing, consult with your employer or testing provider before using any hemp-derived cannabinoid product.
